Transportation

If you are flying in, there are a few options.

From Amsterdam: It is possible to reach Växjö (VXO) by flight via Amsterdam (Schiphol, AMS). You can search for flight connections on KLM's website.

From Copenhagen: Another convenient way to reach Växjö is to take a flight to Copenhagen airport (Kastrup, CPH), and then continue with a direct train from the airport to Växjö. It takes about two and half hours to travel from the airport to Växjö. There are two train companies, SJ and Öresundstågen, that will take you from Copenhagen to Växjö. You can buy tickets using vending machines in the luggage claim area or ticket offices at the airport. You can also find train schedules and purchase your train tickets online on SJ or Länstrafiken Kronoberg.

From Stockholm: In case you enter Sweden from the east (Finland, Russia, China and Japan) it can also be convenient to take a flight to Stockholm airport Arlanda (ARN) and then continue with a domestic flight to Växjö. There are flight departures Bromma (BMR). If you travel by train from Stockholm you can find train schedules and purchase your train tickets on SJ.

Travelling between Växjö Station and Linnaeus University

Linnaeus University is located about 2.5 kilometers south of the city center.

Bus to campus: A convenient way to reach campus is to take bus number 3 heading towards "Universitetet". You have the option to buy a single ticket, valid for 2 hours, or a "Visitor’s ticket", valid for either 24 or 72 hours, with which you can travel all over Växjö. The ticket can be purchased in the bus or at the customer center (Växjö Resecentrum) at Växjö railway station. If you want to pay on the bus we suggest you use your credit card. If you pay with cash there is an extra fee. The price varies depending on ticket type and your age. For more information, visit Länstrafiken Kronoberg.
Please note that, during the event's period, the bus stop from Växjö C will not be functioning, due to construction work. The closest bus stop is "Stortorget", which is less than 5 min. walking distance from the central station (see this map for the walking route).
Lines 1 and 5 (Resecentrum / Teleborg Centrum) go between Resecentrum and Teleborg Centrum, which is located at 8–10 minutes walking distance from the university.

All bus routes are operated by Länstrafiken Kronoberg. Click here to search for bus time tables (use keywords such as "Växjö Resecentrum" and "Linnéuniversitetet").

If you prefer to take a taxi, there is a taxi stand situated at the central station. You can reach the following companies by phone:

  • Växjö Taxi: +46 (0)470-135 00
  • Värends Taxi: +46 (0)470-169 00

By bike: Many of the hotels offer bicycles, if you prefer that. It takes about 20 minutes by bike from the city centre to Linnaeus University.

Attractions in Växjö

Official visitor's guide for Växjö

Our suggestions

Växjö is the very heart of southern Sweden – in the middle of Småland. There is a lot to see, experience, and do here – local handicraft, unique shops and world-class restaurants. If you just want to pick three things to see and do during your visit, we recommend you The Swedish Glass Museum, the House of Emigrants and the steamboat "Thor".

To get to the steamboat, take bus no.1 in the direction of "Kronobergs Slottsruin". Regular bus fare applies, the bus ride takes about 30 minutes.

Note: There is no need to buy Swedish Crowns (SEK) in cash if you can use a credit card (with PIN), as most (if not all) shops and attractions accept payment by card (in fact, most do not accept cash at all).
